What advice do you have for someone with a hernia in the right inguinal cavity?

I have been diagnosed with a hernia that needs to be repaired.

A hernia is a bulging or protusion of an organ through the tissue surrounding it. Therefore, anyone with any time of hernia should definitely get it repaired as soon as possible. Failure to do so can cause damage or infection to the organ which is involved in the hernia, and this can lead to further problems.

The best thing to do is have it repaired. A hernia can strangulate if the intestine protrudes and can not be reduced. This situation would then require immediate emergency surgery.

As you have already been diagnosed, I would agree to have a hernia repair. Recovery is 4-6 weeks. An untreated inguinal(groin) hernia can have serious repercussions without having surgey. A condition called a "strangulated hernia" can occur. The hernia becomes very tightly "wrapped" possibly leading to gangrene. This is more painful and longer recovery.

Often conservative treatment is all that is needed in inguinal hernias - watch and wait, if the hernia is not severe. In certain situations, for example the hernia is causing pain or discomfort or there is a risk of bowel obstruction or strangulation, repair is necessary. This is a routine operation although your surgeon should still discuss the risks involved.

I had one. It sucks. Anyway, do not lift heavy weights, as this will cause the intestine to insert itself further into the inguinal cavity. Pressure may be applied to revert this, pushing the intestine back. Get surgery as soon as possible.

I had a bilateral inguinal hernia that went undiagnosed for months...the pain slowly got worse, near the end finally dropping me to the ground nearly daily. Get it treated, my Dr missed mine for months and honestly the pain gets intense. I think I have a malpractice case??
