Bubonic Plague is currently treatable with certain antibiotics. It will kill fifty to ninety percent of people who are untreated but only fifteen percent of people who are treated in time. The plague stopped when it ran it's course.

Bubonic plague can be treated with the antibiotics gentomycin and streptomycin. However, during the plagues of the past, this treatment was not available. The plague outbreaks never really stopped, but lessened when winter came, killed the fleas that spread it, and kept people indoors and out of crowds.

The Bubonic Plague came to an end basically because it killed off the majority of the most populated areas. The Bubonic plague is similar to Cancer in that its a suicide disease because it kills its host.
