I wouldn't recommend sugar itself, but dry molasses is an excellent organic additive that gives plants all it needs including potash, carbohydrates, and most of what a plant needs.

You can put sugar on your lawn as a natural way to feed your grass. Mix confectioners sugar with your fertilizer for added energy for your plants.
