Should I get special clippers for cat claws?

The best thing to do is get clippers designed for a small dog or cat. These clippers are designed to clip a claw. This insures the clip isn't to far up on the nail. Also, there is always the option of the vet doing it.

You shouldn't have to use clippers at all. Cats naturally scratch to remove the outer sheath of the claws and to keep their claws sharpened (and shortened). Get your car scratching posts or boards and sprinkle them with fresh catnip to encourage use. Emery Cat Boards work very well in caring for cat claws.
