Should I buy or rent a rug steamer?

You should rent if your a clean person. If you make a mess on the rug a lot, then you should buy one. Renting can be very cheap, you can even get someone to come do it for you for a minimal amount, where as buying you can spend upwards of 1000 dollars.

If you only need a rug steamer every few years like most people, it probably makes the most financial sense to rent instead of buying. With renting, you aren't responsible for storage or upkeep which can be very expensive.

I would advise buying one instead of renting from my experience the rented ones are usually not good at removing the extra water. They just sort of push it around.

This depends; Are you planning on steaming your rugs on a regular basis? If this is a one or two time thing, then I would suggest renting a steamer. However, if you are going to be using it often, I would suggest buying one, as you would save money in the long run.
