Vacuum on a regular basis. If you get a spot on your rug, mix 1 cup warm water with 1 cup vinegar. Dampen a cloth in the mixture and wring out really well. Keep blotting the area and cleaning the cloth until you have removed the dirt.

Jute rugs collect a lot of dust and dirt in the fibers AND create a lot of dust as well. Take the rugs out of the house. If possible, hang them and then use a traditional broom to beat them so that debris will be released. Clean the floors well before returning the rugs to the house.

Take jute rug outdoors and put it over a railing or a clothesline and beat it with the business end of a broom. This will knock dirt and dust from the fibers. While the rugs are up, sweep and wash the floors well. Once they are back in place, sweep with a broom, not a carpet sweeper.

The best way to clean a jute back rug is to use a dry vac carpet cleaning system. Any residential or commercial carpet cleaning business would know how to approach a carpet with jute backing .
