Should I add dates to my resume?

Answer by  emdee (17)

Yes, you should add the start and end date (month and year) to work, volunteer, internship, etc. experience you want to include on your resume. This info is useful to potential employers - it indicates how experienced you are, and possibly how reliable you are.

Traditionally, resumes show the dates you worked for previous employers and year of college graduation, if applicable. If you are older with a long work history, however, leave out dates that reveal your age to avoid age discrimation. Don't state the year you graduated and only list jobs held in the past 15 to 20 years.

Yes, you should. It is good for future possible employers to see when you worked at work place of employment, as it gives them a timeline of your recent/past employment.

Absolutely. Your prospective employer wants specifics, and most prefer to see that your work history is unbroken, as this communicates a good work ethic on your part.

Generally speaking you should add dates to your resume because it gives the employer an idea of what and when you have worked in jobs. It also allows the employer to know if your skills are current.
