Our flower garden was mulched last year with hardwood. Now my impatients will not grow in the garden. Other plants are doing fine. Can you tell me what might be wrong?

Hardwood mulch may not be the best for impatients. The recommendation is for manure or compost materials. Hardwood may harbor molds or fungus that could prevent your impatient from growing. Try removing the mulch from the area where the impatients are and reworking the soil with compost or manure. Then plant the impatient and see if they improve.

Be sure that the impatients you bought this year are the same as last year. There are many diffrent types and if you bought somthing diffrent by accident they may not grow as well. Also mabye the bed needs fertilized. Sometimes the proper nutrients aren't present in the soil.
