Cats are unused to being inside, and may feel by the texture of the carpet, combined with their genetics that it is a natural place to pee.

Your cat could be sick. Sometimes if a cat is sick or has something wrong with it they will act funny. Sometimes they pee places, or follow you and whine. Your cat could be peeing on your carpet if you just moved into your house and another cat has peed there before.

Cats are sensitive to their envirnoment or changes in daily routines. Oftentimes, a change in their human's behavior, such as being away from home too long can trigger unacceptable behavior.

The most common cause is a bladder infection. you should have the cat seen by a vet to test for infections. They should also run a blood test as it could be kidney problems or diabetes as well.

There can be several reasons for this. The litter box might not be clean enough, another cat may have previously urinated in the same spot, or your cat might have a urinary tract infection.
