Your dog may have hip dysplasia, which is common in Goldens. In older dogs, too, the most common cause of lameness is problems with the knees on the back legs.

He could just be suffering joint pain from old age, or he could have a common genetic problem called hip dysplasia. Confirm this diagnosis with a vet and get medication.

I think the best thing you can do when you see your dog walking different, favoring one leg, etc. is to take them to the vet's office. It could be numerous things - a pad issue, bone issue, ligament tears, etc.

Since your dog is most likely old it is probably either hip or joint pain, arthritis or discomfort. When a dog gets old, especially large dog breeds it tends to start to form issues with those areas. Get your dog a hip and joint supplement. That will help with some of the pain.
