My girlfriend is pregnant, do I have to stop paying child support?

Child support is for live children and no matter what happens to the parent, child support continues until the child finishes high school or reaches the age of 19. Fortunately, the only ways to end child support before this is to get custody of the child, have the birth mother end it or if the child dies.

Unless your order of support is modified by the ordering court, you are required to continue making payments. If the added financial burden makes paying a hardship, you should petition the court to reduce your support payment.
