On the occasions my cats have had infections the Vet has sold me ibruprofen painkiller especially for cats. (Very expensive!!!). Then given me written instructions on the dosage for antibiotics, and a prescription to take to the pharmacy. The medication I bought was exactly the same as a human would take.

Pets can indeed be prescribed antibiotic medications on occasion. However, they can only be given these medicines if your vet says so. Because of the dosages for animals varies so much, do not give them anything yourself - not even if it seems like a small or harmless amount.
