Online confessions have been offered in the past for Catholics, however, such confessions have been ruled invalid. Part of the sacrament of confession, the church has declared, is the presence of a personal encounter between the priest (minister of the sacrament) and the penitent. Security and authenticity certainly would also be a practical problem with online confession.
