Catholics strongly believe that the marriages outside the church are not the blessed ones. They worry that the children cannot be raised as pure catholics. They also lose the consideration of the large catholic church

If you are Catholic and marry outside of the church, the marriage is not recognized by the Catholic church. If you are divorced and marry, the Catholic church requires you nullify the first marriage for the second to be recognized. You can always convert to Baptist and make your in-laws happy.

Catholics believe marriage is a sacrament, as is Communion and confession. To be fully married, both participants must be Catholic. They will be more accepting if you convert to Catholicism.
