There is currently no outbreak of flesh eating bacteria on the Gulf Coast. In late 2010 there were three reported cases in the Gulf. it is important to note that there between 600-700 cases of flesh eating disease every year in America. This disease is very rare and usually affects people who are immune compromised.

The Gulf Coast is not having a special outbreak of flesh-eating diseases. There are about 700 cases of bacterial infections that cause necrosis (tissue-death or "flesh-eating") every year in the USA, or two a day. The rate in the Gulf Coast area has not increased. Considering a link to exposure to Gulf water is normal, but science doesn't support it.

No there is no such thing going on. People are scared and sometimes say things they know nothing about. The water is safe now and has been tested. Nothing on the news suggest anything like that. Listen to the news for facts, the rest are rumors and can not be relied upon as facts.
