The hypotalamus regulates the menstral cycle by secreting the hormone known as GnRH. This hormone alerts the pituitary gland to release the hormones FSH and LH which regulates ovary production. If this process is not working properly, periods will be irregular.

There is a connection between the hypothalamus gland and menstrual irregularity because hypothalamus gland is a major gland in human body. Abnormal function of the hypothalamus leads to decreased secretion of gonadotropin which is the main cause for menstrual irregularity. This problem cam occur due to teratoma,syphilis,tuberculosis and several diseases.

Yes. the hypothalamus in your brain sends releasing factors to your pituitary gland. pituitary gland. releases pituitary homones called (gonadotropins) to ovaries.
