Is the concept of "dark lords" from Star Wars or did it exist before that?

The concept of evil has always been around in literature starting from the great epic poems to the dark folklore of the south.

The concept was used in fantasy literature before the Star Wars movies. I know that The Lord of the Rings by Tolkiens used the concept to describe evil.
