Is Superman's hometown of Metropolis, Illinois a real place?

I saw it in DC comics.

Metropolis, Illinois is a real town. However, that is not the Metropolis that is Superman's hometown. That fictional town is vaguely located in the Midwest to East Coast.

There is a Metropolis, Illinois. It is located at the extreme southern tip of Illinois. The population in the year 2000 was more than 6,000.

In the DC comic books we are told that Superman's hometown is Metropolis, Illinois. This city of Illinois does exist and is big on tourism. Lots of tourism including festivals, Harrah's Casino, the Superman Celebration, tournaments and much more to see and do attract many visitors each year.

No, it's fictional. Chicago is the biggest city in the mid-west and Metropolis is most likely a mixture of Chicago and New York.
