False. There are many buildings taller than the Capitol building. There are skyscrapers taller than that. One example of a taller building is the Empire State building.

No law was ever passed to that effect, but that convention stood for decades in the city of Washington, DC. However, the Washington Monument is taller than the Freedom Statue.

The Statue of Freedom stands 19 feet tall and weighs approximately 15,000 pounds. Her crest rises 288 feet above the east Front Plaza. There's a law that NO STATUE (only statues) can be higher than the Statue of Freedom in Washington DC, 'cause nothing stands higher than Freedom.

that is soon to be broken because MLK's statue is 30 feet tall and will be unveiled at his memorial's opening on August 28.  add a comment

That is false. The Washington Monument stands taller than the statue of Freedom on the Capitol. The Washington monument stands at over 550 ft tall, easily eclipsing the height of the Capitol.

There can be no 'statue' taller (or is it higher?) than Freedom since "nothing should be held higher than Freedom"!! I think that only holds for Washington, D.C.
