Is it tacky to email a birthday invite?

I want to cut down on the cost of my party and was going to email the invites.

E-vites are all the rage. Given our techno-culture, it is quite common to get E-vites for casual parties, gatherings and meetings (not work related). There are a number of websites that have lots of different templates for various occasions. The best part is that you can include the guest list (so invitees don't talk about it those not invited.)

In this age of constantly-growing technology, it is acceptable to email an invitation to a birthday party. You do want to make sure that the people you invite actually do check their email though.

I do not think so. It just shows how technological we are as a society. In today's day in age we have come to expect this type of thing.

It depends on how formal the party is. For a relatively casual get-together, e-mail should be fine. There are also free sites such as that you can use to create invitations that are more attractive and festive-looking than a simple e-mail.
