I would caution against this. Because of the nature of the fuel tank one that you have repaired will always have a weak spot that risks leaking. Its critical for your safely that this not happen. Look into replacing the fuel tank.

It can be with empty tank. Cut few pieces of plastic from the fuel tank using wire cutters. Heat edges with a heat gun.Use hot knife and smooth softened plastic.

Not really. You would not have to worry about the gas getting out as much as the gas vapors being able to escape and cause something to catch on fire or explode. If you have a plastic tank that needs to be repaired, you should just buy a new one.
