Is it possible to motivate an employee using extrinsic motivation?

Yes. These are called incentives and employee bonuses. Payment of rewards based on improved personnel metrics, being allowed to leave an hour early for meeting quota, these are extrinsic motivators.

Yes, it is always possible to motivate an employee by using extrinsic methods of motivation but the motivation must be on the positive side and that too also when there are cordial relations.

Motivation is based on feelings and you cannot make an employee feel enthusiastic about something. Extrinsic motivation is not effective. Instead: focus on getting rid of demotivating factors (e. g. , policies that are a pain) and figure out what is intrinsically motivating for each person and try to incorporate those features.

extrinsically motivated employees will do their work only as long as they receive their rewards and they will stop performing the tasks, once the rewards are no longer The employees are involved in particular task because of the external rewards that gives them satisfation and , and not their interest
