Question by  MrsBethy (16)

Is it possible to get a Citroen car in the United States?

If I do find one where would I take it to get work done on it?

It would be possible to import one although it must meet Department of Transportation standards and be road-legal in the United States. You could try an independent mechanic with experience working on European cars. Also, Citroen uses some Mitsubishi engines, so some service could be done there.

Modern cars cannot be brought in because they do not pass crash or emissions standards. Anything over 25 years can be brought in because they are exempt. You would have to find the car, have it shipped in, and file customs papers. Before it is registered you usually have to pass an inspection by the DPS.

It is possible. Upon arrival to the U.S., though, it will be required to go through an emmissions test. If it doesn't pass you will have to do the necessary work to make it emmissions legal. However, if it's old enough then it will be grandfathered in. There are many foreign auto service shops that could work on it also.

Citroen vehicles were sold in the United States at one time. So yes you can find one here but it will be vintage vehicle. Any mechanic can work on them.

Yes it is, but it is expensive to import and maintenance will be even more pricey because you will have to get a specialist to do the work.

Probably the best option for you is to contact a vehicle importer that specializes in European cars. Not only can they import the car but usually can either have it converted for you also or direct you to a shop. Then you will have to go through the trouble of getting it through emissions and getting it registered.
