Question by  NarayanaMurthy (197)

Is it difficult to alter women's patterns?

The patterns never seem to fit.

If your pattern is too large, you can slit the pattern and take it in by simply overlapping by an inch or two (depending on how much too big it is). In the same way, if it is too small, you can slit the pattern and spread it out adding an inch or two. Just measure carefully.

As in all other aspects of sewing, be meticulous. Take your own measurements and compare it to the recommended pattern measurements on the envelope or on pattern. Make adjustments on the pattern in places it is indicated you can do (such as length of a skirt, length of a bodice or sleeve).

In order to alter certain women's patterns you will have to convince them that changing the pattern would be good for them.
