It is very common to have swelling for the first couple of days after having a tooth extraction, especially if it is a back tooth. If you are experiencing a lot of pain with it you may need to call your dentist, because this could be a sign of a dry socket or other problems.

No it isn't common, you should contact your dentist that did the extraction. You may have a infection and may need antibiotics. Sometimes after a extraction you can get what is called a dry socket. A dry socket is when the bone around the extraction sight dies and causes pain. Only your dentist can diagnose the reason for the swelling.

It is common to have swelling for several days after a tooth extraction. It may last more than a week of the tooth that was removed had a cavity, abscess, or infection.

Is it common, yes, but typically, the dentist will prescribe Penicillin to fight against infection if you happen to get food into your open hole.

Some mouth swelling after a tooth extraction may be normal. If the swelling remains for more than 24 hours or is accompanied by swelling, an abscess may be present.
