Is it a good idea to have bridesmaids dresses made of silk?

I think that it's a bad idea because for one, silk is very expensive. Also it stains from everything even water.

My silk dress was beautiful and because it also had silk lining, felt wonderful against my skin and was very cool during an outdoor summer wedding. It also photographed well. Unforunately, the taffeta wrinkled horribly and looked pretty bad by the time the reception began. The fabric was also fragile and another girl's tore when she picked up her toddler.
