Usually, there are lawyers who work for Legal Aid agencies, and they provide free and low cost legal advice for people who cannot afford a lawyer or whose situation is too small for them to have to pay for an attorney. This advice is very reliable because the lawyers have nothing to gain.

I would say it would depend on the source. If you're visiting a free legal clinic that is manned by attorneys who volunteer their time, then I would say that advice would be reliable. I don't think that much of the free advice on the internet is particularly reliable, however.

Many reputable, bar ceritified, attorneys will give free consultations to perspective clients. Additionally; legal aid, public defenders, and certain interest groups (such as the ACLU) provide competent advice to people who can't afford representation for free (or sometimes on a sliding scale). The important thing to consider if the source.

It depends on the source. If you are receiving advice from an attorny who works with a non-profit organization, you can probably rely on it.
