The California Court systems provides a wide range of free legal assistance for both civil and criminal actions. In addition Legal Aid in each of the counties provides free legal aid, depending upon household income qualifications. The type of aid provided ranges from office consultation to actual legal representation in non-criminal matters.

You may be able to get free legal advice from various clinics run by law schools a few times a year. Legal Aide is generally limited to cases of domestic abuse. There is no law against legal advice.

You can get free legal advice from the Legal Aid Society. You have to prove (complete a form) that states you have insufficient assets and income to pay.
