Is football necessary?

Football may not be absolutely necessary because despite the revenue that is brought in to colleges and professional franchises, other sports would act as the same source of revenue in football's absence. Football's importance is derived from it's entertainment purposes and despite it's vast popularity, if there was no more football, people would find other forms of entertainment.

I'm not even sure what you are asking with this question, but football is a huge part of American culture, especially with the advent of fantasy football. Many people spend hours watching, following and talking about the sport.
