Is eye winking a sign of affection from a cat?

I don't think so. Their sign of affection is when their tails rattle like crazy. I know because I have a female cat alone in our basement. When it sees another cat outside, it's tail gets really hard and shakes. I have not seen a cat winking an eye.

A tail rattle isn't affection, it's agitation. It gets mad when it sees another cat in its territory.  add a comment

may i ask WHY is your cat living alone in the basement. If i didn't know better I would say ths is an act of cruetly. cats need socialization, love and people to ensure it is mentally stable. Shame on you.  add a comment

Actually, a cat will say "I love you" by closing its eyes for a few seconds and opening them again (while looking at you). You can say "I love you" back by returning the long blink. They also say "I love you" by holding their tails straight up.

Blinking or half squinting their eyes is a way that cats show love for each other and their people. You should not look directly at a cat with wide open eyes as this is a sign of agression. Slowly blinking your eyes at your cat tells him you love him.

No. A cat has no understanding of the human behavior of winking at someone we are interested in. They wink because something is bothering their eye.
