Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie is more of a comedy than the Buffy the Vampire Slayer T.V. show. The premise of a high school vampire slayer girl is the same.
The movie, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was basically a one joke picture. A cheerleader fighting vampires was a fun idea. The TV series had a much darker overall tone and sensibility.
They both had similar main characters but besides that there was not much similarity. First of all the movie was released a long time ago, in the late 80s or early 90s so it is pretty cheesy. It is still about a blond high school vampire hunter though.
It is pretty similar to the series. Buffy the vampire slayer movie is introducing Buffy's character in it's entirety. It's a parody of Buffy's and her life as a vampire slayer.
