Is black sap normal, from a maple tree?

The tree in my yard is dripping black sap. Is this a normal color?

Sounds like a bug problem. There could be an insect eating the inside of your tree. Talk to a nursery specialist to find a cure.

Maple trees for sap collection are Sugar , Black , Red , and Silver. The Sugar and Black Maple provide the highest sugar content.

Sounds like bacterial wetwood or slime flux. It's a bacterial infection in the tree core, typically associated with foul-smelling, black sap-like ooze.
