This would depend on what the terrier was mixed with. Typically mixed breeds are usually more intelligent than pure breeds due to pure breeds being susceptible to in-breeding. A great and classic choice for a hunting dog would be the blood hound. They are chosen for their superior tracking abilities.
Terriers were bred originally bred to kill rodents on farms, so not great hunting companions. Good Breeds are, Deutsch Drahthaar, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, or Hunting Airedale Terrier.
