What are good companion dogs?

Any dog can be a good companion dog, but for an older man living alone, usually nicer dogs such as Retrievers and Labs that can be easily trained to help someone are ideal. However, each dog is unique, so it would really depend on the situation.

Any dog is a good companion to any owner if you speak right to it, mostly German Shepards are the best, and so aren't shitzu puppies because they are so small.

basset hound - Medium size dog with short hair and can be playable with children and great for your dad. A best companion dog that suited for a lonely old man who lives alone.

Usually mixed breeds have better tempraments than purebreeds. They also seem to be smarter in many cases. But there are a few breed that are especially good for companionship. These would be Golden Retrievers and Labrodor Retrievers. Both of these dogs are people dogs and love to please their owners to the best of their abilities.
