A ported box will almost always be louder than a sealed box with the same sub-woofer. Sealed boxes are smaller and tend to produce better sound quality, but ported boxes get more decibels out of a sub-woofer by being able to move more air at once.

The ported box is louder simply because it is not sealed. The sealed box traps the sound inside and soften the sound that it creates. The ported box is more open so it lets the sound out and thus is much louder than the sealed box. In short, the ported box is louder.

neither. having an open backed or closed back cabinet will change how the speakers push air. an open backed cab will produce a more open sound with faster response, while a closed back design will focus the sound and have a more percussive bass sound.

It's my opinion that a ported box is louder. You get that good deep sound with a ported box.Sealed boxes are good though too,but definetly not as loud. You lose some of the sound with a sealed box

A bandpass sub-woofer box is "louder" than both, but, in general, a ported box sub-woofer is louder and offers a lower bass than sealed sub-woofers.

A sealed box is louder. A ported box causes the speaker to lose some of efficiency. Instead of the sound all coming from the speaker, some is scattered by ports.
