Is a Mongoose BMX bike good for a beginner?

if you are into BMX - yes - if not forget it get a mtb or road bike

It depends on the reason. If they just want a BMX style bike to ride around on then it is a good beginner bike. If they have the intention of wanting to compete in BMX events then I would recommend a higher quality bike. Mongoose was a leader in BMX bikes until they started being sold at Wal-Mart.
