If the kickoff goes out of bounds, the receiving team has three options. They can take the ball where it went out of bounds, they can take the ball 25 yards from the spot where it was kicked, or they can accept a 5-yard penalty and have the other team re-kick the ball.

When a kickoff goes out of bounds in high school football, the receiving team has the option of accepting the ball where it went out of bounds or 25 yards from the spot of the kick.

If the football is kicked out of bounds on the kickoff during a high school football game, the football is moved back five yards and re-kicked, or the receiving team can choose to take the ball where it went out of bounds.

If the football goes out of bounds on the kickoff, the kicking team needs to kick over again but 5 yards further back ( closer to their own goal posts ). This rule is meant to give the kicking team incentive to keep the ball in play and avoid delay of game.

It's a penalty and the receiving team gets the football at their own 40 yard-line. This penalty cannot be declined- and for certain it provides a good incentive for kickers to try and keep their kick within the field of play.
