Algae can grow in almost any environment but it thrives on moisture. It is most commonly found on bodies of water that are in humid areas.

Light is the main limiting factor, followed by nutrients, in particular phosphorus and nitrogen. However water transparency may cause nutrients to be the limiting factor.
