First off, I would get or borrow a camcorder and start working on lighting and angles. I assume you already have a screenplay. Find some friends to help make a short film.

Start with a good story -- no more than 5 pages, in proper script format; movies are ALL ABOUT STORY. Find someone willing to work with you as your producing partner; between you and him/her, you will MAKE THE MOVIE HAPPEN. Borrow a digital camera. Use a few friends as actors, and keep the locations to a minimum.

I believe you are saying you want to direct a movie. This is a complicated process. You need a script, a cast, a crew, the right technology (which is usually expensive) and very likely financial backers. Why not start with an online short or two that you can post to youtube. Write, shoot it, edit it, post and get feedback.

When making a movie it is all ways best to start by creating your characters before you start writing your script.

You need the right equipment, like camera, plenty of lights, and a boom mike. But before you even use any of that, you need a solid script and plenty of friends who aren't bad at acting. If you don't have that, you'll need to schedule an audition. These are all good things to have at the start.

You need a script, actors, at least one video camera, and funding to pay them. You will need a studio to edit the film in after shooting.
