It's not uncommon for the bedding in a guinea pig's cage to irritate his or her fur and skin. This promotes the guinea pig to scratch at the area which may cause baldness. Mites, disease, and other ailments can also cause baldness. A trip to the vet would be your best idea.

Bald spots on guinea pigs are often due to mites. The type of mites that infect them are too small to see, so you should take it to a veterinarian to be examined and tested. The mites can make your guinea pig miserable and cause ill health, but they can be easily treated if caught early.

Hair loss in guinea pigs (apart from the bald patch behind the ears that all pigs have) is usually a result of mange mites or a fungal infection. Hair thinning can be associated with pregnancy. Take your pig to a qualified exotics vet for a check up. If it is mites, you will likely be given ivermectin to apply topically.

Your guinea pig could be infected with ring worm. Ask your vet if there is a medication for him. Ringworm causes the fur to clump and fall out. Also, it could be the type of bedding your using in his cage. Cider is a bad choice for bedding so if you have it down in his cage change it.
