If ticks are on your dog or cat, they have special medicine like Frontline or Topspot that you can give your pet. If you want to kill a loose tick, or one that you have removed from your skin, you can burn it, or drown it in rubbing alcohol.

If you are killing an individual tick, heat works best. Light a match and blow it out then hold the match to the tick. If you are preventing ticks there sprays and treatments for your animals that work well. You can get them at any pet store.

If the tick is already inbedded into the skin, you can apply nail polish over it, which causes it to suffocate and release. You can also light it with a match or apply rubbing alcohol to it.
