Scabies are caused by a mite and are highly contagious. Ivermectin is an effective treatment along with supplements such as fish oil to help with the skin irritation. The dog does need to be seen by a vet.
First give a bath in a Permethrin(Ivermectin) shampoo. Then apply creames which are specifically made to get rid of the mites. Keep dog away from other animals until condition is cleared up.
