These strips are designed to level out the joins between floor-coverings so you'll have to make sure you have the right kind (eg. strips for hardwood to carpet transitions etc. ) Cut the strip with a hacksaw, then drill holes for the screws and affix over the join.

Measure it, cut it, and then overlap with the edge of the carpet and nail it into the substrate. If it's a cement floor, use glue instead of nails.

Measure the area you are installing the strips, cut to fit with hacksaw, use a pen to mark the holes for the screws and drill pilot holes straight down.

Well if you want to install the carpet transition step place the step near the spot you want to transition it to. Then you will need a sealer and levels.
