How should I go about becoming a detective?

Most police departments in major cities today require that you have a degree in political science and or police enforcement prior to becoming a detective. If not then you would start your career in the Police academy, once you have graduated you will have to prove yourself and move up in the force.

To become a Detective, first you must get hired by a Police department. Once hired, evaluation and/or testing are required to become a detective. As a patrol officer, completing initial incident reports that are well put together are a plus. Making good arrests as a patrol officer alos will get you noticed by Supervisors.
