If the deck is brand new, it needs to be sealed immediately. Examine the deck annually to check for any dirt, algae or debris. For best protection, reseal your deck once a year, but twice a year is probably more than adequate for most climate regions. If you notice water damage to any of the boards, replace and reseal them.

Depending on weathering, you should probably refinish it about once per decade. Again, the length really depndeds on wear and tear. Look for peeling finnish.

A wooden deck should be refinished or stained every 8 years, but no more than 10 times, otherwise the wood starts to loose it's stregth and becomes a hazard to users. A well maintained deck will have high quality stains and finishers that help prevent water and foot traffic damage.

The rule of thumb is every three to five years depending on the stain and sealant that you choose to use. By power washing yearly you can extend the life of your deck.

If you live in a "harsh" environment, natural wear-and-tear is bound to happen. From personal experience, I can say generally every two to three years a staining would be sufficient. However depending on local weather conditions and quality of your initial stain that time may or may not be shortened.

There is no exact time period for how often your deck should be refinished or stained. It depends on several factors: the quality of the existing finish, the severity of the weather, the amount of traffic it gets, and whether you have animals that will scratch it. Only do it when necessary based on these factors.

It Depends on the quality of stain and the type of winter weather your area has,but most stains on the market say they are good for five years.

Your deck should be refinished based on the wear of it. If it is gray-brown and the wood is showing signs of age, it may be time.
