Question by  professional (21)

How often should I replace my acrylic tips?

I have had my tips on for eight weeks now and am thinking they should be replaced instead of filled in.

You should have your acrylic tips filled every two to three weeks, after too long the acrylic nail will grow to long on your real nail and can cause nails to be brittle or break when the acrylic nail is removed. After 8 weeks they will need to be removed.

I usually do fill in's for about a month. I try to get them totally redone once I start to see the whites of the fake nail is past my skin. It starts to look tacky at that point. Everybody's nail grow differently, but I wouldn't wait for 8 weeks.

I recommend replacing acrylic tips every three months. This keeps your nails clean and looking new. It also prevents nails from becoming weak and breaking.

Ask your manicurist what they think. I replace mine only when they need it, when they get weak or chipped. It saves time and money. You can feel when they start to weaken, they'll be a little more flexible and prone to cracks and chipping.
