In 2009, overall DVD sales and other content had declined to $13 billion, that being down about 10% from 2008 sales. Movie business increased and box office hits drew $9. 87 billion in 2009; this number overtook DVD and Blue-ray sales of $8. 73 billion.

Since DVD's first came out it is estimated that over nine hundred billion dollars have been spent on them in the United States alone.
