real estate

Question by  davrots (15)

How do I terminate a real estate sales contract with my realtor?

My real estate agent is slow. While our home's been on the market, my husband decided he didn't want to transfer, which was the initial cause for the sale of our house. I would like to end the contract.

If you actually signed a contract, I would consult a lawyer before you attempt to break it. If not, then simply write an email to the lazy real estate agent and tell him you no longer need his services

Read your contract carefully. The requirements for "termination of contract" should be included in the contract somewhere. If they are not, contact your realtor and explain that you wish to terminate the contract. There will be some stipulations, i. e. you can't later sell to someone the realtor showed your house to. If all else fails, seek legal counsel.

If you just don't want to sell, you should be able to end the contract immediately; preferably, do it in writing to avoid misunderstandings. If you still want to sell but are unhappy with their services and want to use someone else, you are required to send them a letter and allow them ten days, to remedy the situation.

You can just simply let the duration run out... if not, just ask, and they generally are okay with it.
