24 karat gold is pure gold, so if your gold is 14 karat, there are 14 parts (approx. 58%) gold, 10 parts (approx. 42%) other metals. Gold is a really soft metal, so the higher the karat, the softer the piece. 14 is a good mix, because it's mostly gold, but has enough other metals to strengthen it.

Solid gold is too soft to make into jewelry so it's blended with other metals. This is called an alloy. Solid gold is 24K, so if something is marked 18K you know it's 3 parts gold to 1 part other metals, or 75%. It follows that 14K is 58.33% gold

24 carat gold is the 99.9% pure gold and therefore, the carat system is based on this. To find how much gold is present in a piece of jewelry containing you divide 14 by 24. This comes out to be 58.3%, which is amount of gold present. 18-carat gold is 75% gold, 12 carat cold is 50% gold, etc.

14 carat gold is an alloy in which 14 parts out of a possible 24, or 58.5% is pure gold. In the United States and Canada the correct spelling is karat, abbreviated kt.

A 14 K gold has 14 parts of gold and 10 parts of one or more metals added. It is actually 58.3% gold.
