The obvious answer is 'it depends'. It will depend on your location, which sort of vehicle you work on and your level of experience. What the company charges the customer is not the amount you would make. Your wages are a separate contract with the owner/manager.

Entry-level mechanics can make anywhere from $20,000 to $40,000 a year. More experienced mechanics have the opportunity to make over $30,000 to $50,000 a year. Salary can also take in account any community college or technical school training, which city you live in and the size of the company.

The average salary for a mechanic in the United States is $36,000. What you make will of course depend on hours you work, company you work for, etc. I say to never choose a job based on the salary. I love the saying "do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life."

A graduate from any automotive college who gets a job at a dealership can get a salary of 65,000 plus.
